Newton Grange is ideally placed to enjoy the outdoor activity and adventure that the Yorkshire Dales provide, with the famous limestone scenery at Malham and Settle just a 20 minute drive away.
We are thrilled to be part of Do it in the Dales, and would encourage you to visit their website to find a useful resource of all things outdoorsy. But it’s more than ideas, navigation and signposting. It’s the real thing. Finding out the practicalities of where to hire bikes, find a walking leader and photography teacher and really experience the Dales, guided by the very people who live here.
Often people say to me that they love walking, but don’t always know where to start when planning a route or how to read a map confidently. Pam from Yorkshire Dales Guides is just the person to ask, helping beginners and seasoned walkers to navigate their way through the contours of the paper, finding navigational handrails to help you know exactly where you are on the route…all the time. And it’s good fun – experiencing, learning, practising, walking and simply being in the outdoors. After a day of doing it in the Dales, there’s nothing nicer than returning to your cosy cottage at Newton Grange with rosy cheeks and the satisfaction of a day of outdoor adventure.
We are delighted to recommend photography breaks in the Yorkshire Dales for solo travellers, couples and small groups. Led by Steve Finch, a photography break is a brilliant chance to enjoy small group and one-to-one photography tuition to help you get the most from your cameras, and to stay in our B&B near Skipton or Dales holiday cottages for a few days. The Yorkshire Dales is a brilliant location to try out your new photography skills and capture memories of your day at the same time. Through the seasons of the year the light changes and our skills must adapt, to capture the delicate blossom on the trees in spring, to the crunchy rustic coloured leaves in autumn, and the silhouettes of winter. You really can practise photography skills all year round. It’s part of experiencing the Dales first hand – doing it in the Dales.
With the countdown of the Grand Depart of the Tour de France underway, we are reminded of the joy of cycling through the glorious Yorkshire Dales – experiencing it on two wheels. We love to cycle from the doorstep of Newton Grange, along the Pennine Cycleway and a little further join the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, following pretty country lanes through breathtaking limestone scenery. Three Peaks country is a stunning place to cycle, and days out to Gisburn Forest and its mountain biking trails make for a great adventure in the outdoors.
Our cycle-friendly accommodation is well equipped for days in the outdoors, with an outside tap for washing bikes and boots, washer and tumbler drier, secure bike storage and emergency puncture repair kit – just in case. We hope to welcome you to Newton Grange soon to experience Yorkshire Dales adventure and relax in the comforts of our B&B and cottages near Skipton.
