Hopes and dreams for 2013

Sitting around the fireside with the new year around the corner, my eyes are drawn to the bright flames dancing and jumping in their fusion of colour. The faint crackle in the room.

Sometimes I think I could watch a fire burn all evening. Then I realise I’ve been sitting for hours not minutes and my mind has been set free to dream.

As the new year approaches somehow I can’t help but think of all those good intentions we have – things we’d love to do, but don’t always find time for. Our search for a healthy and happy lifestyle.

So 2013 begins for us with a hive of activity. Very soon, the Secret Spa will be opening and we’re really excited to be working with Truly Essential on this new project. In the next couple of months we’ll be undertaking a ‘Cottage Makeover’ project. And I’ll be writing….a lot.

Writing about self-guided walks, cycle rides and holidays in the Yorkshire Dales. All those places to explore from the doorstep. Adventures waiting to be discovered, just a short drive or train ride away.

Walking boots on, and wrapped up for the elements, it’s a chance to set out on foot and enjoy the crisp fresh air. Reminding us of our dreams for a healthy and happy new year. I just love being outside.

That’s just as well, as my husband and I prepare to train for Oxfam’s Trailtrekker in June (http://www.oxfam.org.uk/trailtrekker). In a moment of enthusiasm, we joined forces with our great friends Liam and Katharine to form a team for this event. A 100km walk (in under 30 hours) starting from Skipton and taking in some of the very best scenery in the Yorkshire Dales.

I’m looking forward to putting my Christmas gift to good use – a brand new, super bright head torch. Reminding us to seize the moments we have to enjoy the healthy fresh air and adventure that the Yorkshire Dales provide. Not to mention, to walk from the doorstep and start a little training…

Whatever your hopes and dreams for 2013, we wish you a happy, healthy and adventure-filled new year, with a good dose of rest and relaxation too.
